The beginning of the second Palestinian intifada in 2000
By entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque and patrolling its courtyards, Sharon provoked the feelings of Palestinians and caused clashes between Muslim worshipers and Zionist soldiers, and as a result of these clashes, 7 Palestinians were martyred and more than 250 others were injured, and at the same time, also 13 Zionist soldiers were injured.
At that time, fierce clashes broke out in the occupied city of Quds, which resulted in dozens of Palestinians being injured, and these clashes soon spread to all the cities of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and became known as the “Al-Aqsa Intifada”.
“Muhammad al-Durrah”, the Palestinian child who was martyred in the Al-Aqsa Intifada, is considered the symbol of the second Palestinian Intifada, and the video file recorded by the French TV channel has been depicted the scenes of the assassination of this 11-year-old child who was next to his father took shelter behind a concrete barrier on Salah al-Din street in the south of Gaza City.
The assassination of this Palestinian child by the Zionist army aroused the anger of the Palestinian people in different places and caused protests and clashes between the soldiers of the Zionist army and Palestinian citizens, as a result of which dozens of them were martyred or injured.
Conflicts and military operations between the Palestinian resistance and the Zionist army in the second Palestinian intifada were more compared to the first intifada. According to the official statistics of both parties, 4,412 Palestinians were martyred and 48,322 people were injured, and on the other side, 1,069 Zionists were killed and 4,500 others were injured.
During this intifada, various areas of the West Bank and the Gaza strip were exposed to the military aggression of the Zionist army and thousands of houses were destroyed and thousands of dunams of agricultural lands were destroyed.
Among the most important events that happened during the al-Aqsa intifada was the assassination of “Rahboam Zaifi”, the Minister of Tourism at the time of the Zionist regime, by the fighters of the People’s Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
At that time, Sharon tried to assassinate a large number of high rank leaders of political parties and military groups of the Palestinian resistance in order to extinguish the flames of the Al-Aqsa Intifada and weaken the resistance groups, and at the head of them was the group of Shahid Abu Ali Mustafa, the General Secretary of the People’s Front. On the other hand, Sharon planned to assassinate Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of the Islamic resistance movement “Hamas”.
The town of Esdurut in the south of occupied Palestine was the target of the first localized rocket of the Qassam battalions, and one year after the beginning of the Al-Aqsa intifada, on Oct. 26, 2001, the first localized rocket of these battalions was fired at this town, and after that, the missile power of this battalion It developed very quickly and Qassam fighters were able to target the biggest Zionist cities.
The second Palestinian intifada was finally extinguished on Feb. 8, 2005, with the signing of a cease-fire agreement between the Palestinian and Zionist parties at the “Sharm al-Sheikh” summit, but observers believe that due to the parties’ failure to reach any political solution and continuity Clashes in the cities of the West Bank, the issues between Palestine and the Zionist regime did not reach to a conclusion and the conflicts continued.
